Most marketers agree that creating compelling content that engages prospects and inspires them to share the content is one of the most effective marketing strategies working today.
But how much content is needed to be effective? How many words per day does it take? Content marketer Mike Sobol puts a number on it.
He says you need to write at least 1500 words per day.
That’s a lot of content. And I would say that is about right to significantly improve your SEO.
But even one 600 word article per week can make a big impact in terms of authority, recognition and virality….if it is sticky content.
What makes content sticky? First of all, it directly addresses your prospects’ challenges, fears and desires. It does so in a compelling way with skillful use of curiosity, controversy, unique insight and personality. So even before you write one word sticky content needs to be well researched and well-thought out. Then, in the words of Guy Kawasaki, “All you have to do is write the good stuff.”
Multimedia content – video, images, audio – can be extremely sticky. Still, multimedia needs optimized to make it most effective. But a good video accompanied with an optimized description of let’s say of around 75 words could probably duplicate or even surpass the impact of a typical 500 word article.
Whatever the word content, you do need a steady output of content to make a difference. And it’s better if it’s sticky.
